One of Rome’s Greatest Emperors

Augustus, whose full name was Gaius Octavius Thurinus, was a key figure in the history of the Roman Empire, ruling from 27 BC until his death in AD 14.
Augustus is best known for being the first Roman Emperor and for his role in the transition from the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire.
He was born on September 23, 63 BC, in Rome, and he was the grandnephew and adopted son of Julius Caesar, the famous Roman general and statesman.

After Julius Caesar’s assassination in 44 BC, Augustus became embroiled in a power struggle with other Roman leaders, including Mark Antony and Marcus Lepidus. This period of conflict is known as the Roman Civil Wars.
In 43 BC, Augustus, Mark Antony, and Marcus Lepidus formed the Second Triumvirate, a political alliance to consolidate power in Rome.
They hunted down and defeated the conspirators who had assassinated Julius Caesar.

Augustus’s reign is often associated with the Pax Romana, a period of relative peace and stability in the Roman Empire that lasted for about two centuries.
During this time, Augustus implemented various reforms, including the establishment of a professional civil service, the reorganization of the Roman military, and infrastructure projects.

The policies and the stability he brought to the empire had a lasting impact on the development of Roman government and culture. He is often remembered as one of Rome’s greatest emperors.
After his death in AD 14, he was succeeded by his stepson and son-in-law, Tiberius.
