Louis-Philippe, born on 6 October 1773 in Paris, was the eldest son of Louis Philippe II, Duke of Orléans (known as Philippe Égalité), and Louise Marie Adélaïde de Bourbon.
Louis-Philippe traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States.
Between 1796 and 1800, he and his brothers explored America, from Maine to New Orleans.
After Napoleon’s defeat, he returned to France in 1814, where he regained his family’s estates and maintained political restraint during the Bourbon Restoration.
Louis Philippe I, known as the “Citizen King”, was the last king to rule France, from 1830 to 1848.
He came to power after the July Revolution of 1830, which led to the abdication of King Charles X. On 9 August 1830, he was proclaimed “King of the French”
Louis-Philippe died on 26 August 1850 in Claremont, Surrey.
Coins from the time of Louis-Philippe I were minted at various locations in France, including Paris, Rouen, Lille and Marseille. Each mint produced coins with slight variations, making certain coins more attractive to collectors.
In addition, some coins have unique features, such as double strikes or specific engraving marks, which can significantly increase their value.
