Louis Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon III (Bonaparte)

Napoleon III, also known as Lodewijk Napoleon Bonaparte, was born in 1808. His father was the brother of Napoleon I.
He reigned as President of the French Republic from 1848 to 1852 and was Emperor of the French from 1852 to 1870.

After several coup attempts, he managed to be elected President of the Republic in 1848 by universal suffrage.
His coup of December 2, 1852 put an end to this and he subsequently became the new emperor.

His policy then was aimed at restoring France’s greatness, which did not please the Kingdom of Prussia.
His reign came to an end after the battle of Sedan during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.
Napoleon III then had to go into exile in Great Britain, where he died three years later, in 1873.
